Generating sample data

The objective for this lab is to connect Google Data Studio to a data set located in Google Cloud Storage, so now we will create a 100 records database using a sample data generator (www.generatedata.com):

  1. Name for the sample data file (in this case, we named it source_data).
  2. Select countries related data.
  3. Define fields names, data type, etc.
  4. Select the file format. CSV refers to a comma-separated values file format.
  5. Fill the delimiter for the CSV file (in this case, a comma).
  6. Check to download the file.
  7. Click to generate data and download the CSV file.

Uploading sample data to Cloud Storage

Click the Browser option from the left menu and open the bucket by clicking on the bucket name to open it:

Click UPLOAD FILES and select the file from the pop-up window. After finished, the first row shows the file:
